All About Transmutation in Chemistry

All About Transmutation in ChemistryThe word transmutation in the context of chemistry refers to a chemical change of one element into another, and has been used since ancient times. For example, iron is referred to as transmuted iron, and tin into pewter, in order to make tin plates.Transmutation in chemistry takes place when one element, like gold, changes into another. It also can involve a change in a single element, or a whole group of elements. This process can be physical, or it can be chemical.Transmutation occurs when a metal in one place changes into another metal, in another place. In some cases, the two metals have different densities. The metal that is in a slightly lighter state will absorb the other metal, and the solid forms a liquid, leaving behind an element that is lighter than the first metal.Let's say that you find a lump of metal, that looks like it might be gold, but that is not gold. You can examine it more closely and determine it is not gold. However, if you try the same thing with a different metal, such as a silver-colored metal, it will have a silver luster. You can then determine that it was in fact gold, by looking at the shiny silver surface. It is known that some substances transmute at different rates. Things that are lighter than air may not change until they are at a very high temperature. Similarly, something that is heavy will change at a higher rate.A good understanding of simple mathematical equations is essential in understanding the process of transmutation in chemistry. For example, the theory that is at the heart of transmutation in chemistry says that in certain metals, there are two kinds of atoms. These are known as the valence and prevalent. There are also two atoms in a cubic centimeter of matter, of a two atoms of every cubic meter. However, if you knew how to turn one metal into another, then you could create a work of art out of materials of varying densities. It is this kind of work of art that is seen in books of cards and ceramic tiles. However, transmutation in chemistry isn't all fun and games. Transmutation in chemistry involves complicated calculations of different combinations. A skilled transmutation in chemist will know exactly what to use, in order to produce an effect in the form of the desired material.

Threesome Tutoring Dinner Table

Threesome Tutoring Dinner TableThreesome tutoring can help people who are contemplating the possibility of having a threesome in the near future by helping them learn how to negotiate and deal with the questions that might arise. Not only will the threesome session at the tutoring dinner table help to introduce the participants into this exciting opportunity, but it can also serve as a great opportunity for them to begin discussing and planning the logistics of the activity. In fact, if you're trying to talk with the participants about your plans for the night, be sure to hold off on actually inviting them. However, it is always best to invite them. In fact, it is crucial that you do so because it will give you the opportunity to establish what exactly you want to talk about with the participants.Just as important, however, is learning how to ensure that the threesome activities run smoothly. This means that if you plan to include the participants at the dinner table, make sure that t hey are provided with food and drink beforehand. It also means that you should set up the set-up ahead of time so that it is ready for use during the evening. For example, you might think it would be a good idea to have the two people who are involved in the event - a man and a woman - meet for the first time at the dinner table. But you can also choose to offer a camera and a microphone to each participant so that you can record the entire event. This will allow you to play it back at a later date so that everyone can see and hear everything that happened. If you are going to include both men and women, you may also want to consider getting the right equipment so that you can record the entire event. The right equipment also serves to make sure that you know exactly what is happening at the time. This is very important because it will allow you to decide if the participants are enjoying themselves.Without the proper equipment, you might be able to get away with a less than perfect ev ent. It is important that you keep that in mind.So remember, when you plan your threesome dinner table, be sure to prepare for the night ahead by prepping the participants with dinner and drinks beforehand. If you're lucky, you might even be able to entice a few new participants to join the evening.

The first 31 digits of pi are: 3.1415926535897932384626433832795. Pi is officially defined as the ratio of a circles circumference to its diameter. A circles diameter is the distance across it from one edge to the other while its circumference is the distance around the whole circle. Pi is considered a constant number because Pi is the same for all circles, regardless of their size. Pi is used in several geometry formulas involving circles. Most often, it is used to find the area of a circle (Area = Pi multiplied by the circles radius squared, or A =r2) or the volume of a cylinder (Volume = Pi multiplied by the cylinders radius squared, multiplied by its height, or V =r2h). [RELATED: Study Strategies for Math] Mathematicians been using Pi for about 4,000 years. Originally, the ancient Babylonians would calculate the area of a circle by taking three times the square of its radius, giving Pi a value of 3. As time went on, the Babylonians and other civilizations all over the world began making closer approximations of Pi, based largely off of their astronomical measurements. Pis official symbol came from the Greek letter, , in the 1700s. How to celebrate Pi Day Students and teachers at schools and colleges across the world hold Pi Day celebrations that often include eating at least one type of pi(e)whether its made of fruit, chocolate, or pizzaas well as telling Pi jokes and discussing Pi history. 4 Painless Steps to Help You Learn Music Theory

4 Painless Steps to Help You Learn Music Theory Suzy S. Sure, music theory is complex but theres no need to fear it! Here, Jamaica Plain, MA teacher Noaa R.  shares four steps to get you started Many students tend to avoid studying music theory and harmony. This can stem from a fear of compromising one’s creativity with rules and numbers, a failure to connect concepts with application, or from feeling overwhelmed by the perceived volume of material to be learned. However, when you approach theory as an exploratory process that helps you grow, navigate your musical world, make creative choices faster, train your ears, and generate new ideas, it’s a total blast. Here are four steps to changing your perspective as you learn music theory. 1) Realize Why You’re Studying Theory The Circle of Fifths, triads, intervals, modes with Greek names, and complicated sounding chords like C7(b9b13) can seem like a pointless jumble of terms and stock patterns to memorize but the facts are: Music theory is tools it evolved as a way to explain, organize, and codify the felt experience of music. All these names correspond to textures or sonic events which have special relationships to each other and provide you with a set of devices to be recognized in listening and used judiciously in composition and improvisation, just like rhetorical devices in writing or speech. When you understand what they are, what they sound like, and recognize the names for them, they’re at your disposal. You are thus freer to make music as opposed to groping blindly in the dark. Yes, you’re studying patterns and devices that other people have used before. This means nothing â€" you will find your own voice regardless, using the same means to your own musical end. You didn’t invent a new language when you learned to speak, yet you express yourself fluently and uniquely using the same words, phrases, and syntax as other English speakers. 2) Get Curious Make music theory a joyful exploration of new sounds. When you learn a new chord, scale, or progression, treat it like a strange and wonderful animal you are encountering for the first time. This isn’t much of a stretch â€" say you are learning about minor 7th, major 7th, and dominant 7th chords. Play them on your instrument. What colors do they have? How do they differ? How do they make you feel? What is difference in the structure of these chord qualities that makes them so distinct? Do they remind you of sounds you’ve heard before? Form a unique relationship with every sound through immersion and play and I mean literal play. Mess around with these new musical building blocks. Create little grooves and ideas, and maybe you’ll even write a song. The goal is to create an experience connected with the concept that is the key to retaining information, not rote memorization. 3) Make it Real Bring concepts out of the intellectual ether into experiential reality immediately. The seven diatonic triads of the major scale should never be left as dots on a page. It’s important to be able to write and spell them, so that you can visualize and understand them. But they aren’t a math problem â€" they are seven textures relating to a tonal center with distinct relationships and near-infinite possibilities for creative combination. Not only that, the vast majority of popular western music uses just these seven chords. Learn the triads on your instrument, then find them on another instrument (piano is a great tool for learning in this regard by virtue of its intuitive and linear organization). Sing them as well â€" often it takes changes of context and approach for something to sink in. Mix and match different triads, one per measure, to create a four-bar progression. What sounded good? What didn’t? What grabbed your ear? Try writing a melody over it. Ask your teacher to help you analyze a tune you’ve always loved and compare it to your progression â€" you’ll be thrilled to recognize familiar patterns after a few of these analyses. 4) Stop Worrying Music is vast. There’s a lot to memorize and keep track of. Understand that you can only process a certain amount at once, so work with bite-size chunks. Patiently trust the process, and you will find concepts become second nature over time. Keep in mind that you need only learn music theory as much as serves the fulfillment of your goals whether you’re a singer-songwriter just looking to spice up the same old progressions or you’re interested in jazz improvisation. Find what’s relevant to you and don’t worry about the rest. Theory only exists as an organized way for us to explore what is available, and to understand deeper what we’re already familiar with so that we can use it more intelligently and artistically. It’s there to serve you. So dive in and have fun! How To Get Promoted Developing a Promotion Plan - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / How To Get Promoted Developing a Promotion Plan - Introvert Whisperer How To Get Promoted: Developing a Promotion Plan No matter if you’re introverted, extroverted, in an entry-level position looking to move up, or an executive hoping to make that next big move in the company, there are a number of basic pillars to landing a promotion. Many employers are realizing that it’s in their best interest to focus on retention so that changing jobs isn’t the fastest way employees can get a promotion, and it’s also in your best interest to make sure you’re able to capitalize on an opportunity to make a move. However, don’t make the mistake of assuming a promotion is simply going to be handed to you because of your performance. This is especially true for us introverts, who would likely prefer our work speak for us. The reality is, getting promoted is about much more than doing an excellent job. A strong work ethic is critical, of course, but the key to moving up is having an actual plan in place. Here are nine steps to help you develop a personal promotion plan. 1. Take On a Professional Persona In order to be perceived as a professional and garner the respect necessary to earn a promotion, you must build a reputation for and actually be those things: professional, respectful, and reliable. As it turns out, dressing for the job you want is actually sage advice. This should be step one, because how you present yourself to others around you will determine everything â€" from the impressions you make to the respect you’ll receive. And in a culture where dressing casual at work has become ubiquitous, looking professional will help you stand out that much more. It’s also been found to be near-scientific fact that how you look influences perceived professionalism. Appearing professional includes everything from your wardrobe to how you wear your hair to your body language. For women, there is a large confidence gap to address, and we can start with something as seemingly simple as our posture. An Ohio State University study showed that maintaining a  poor posture for 30 minutes significantly increases stress levels, depression, and fear, while holding yourself more upright increases confidence and lowers stress levels. Invest in a good posture wearable that will help train your body to maintain proper positioning throughout the day. Men, on the other hand, may overlook small details like the power of a good shave. But there is actually a small correlation between success and a clean shave, or at least well-groomed facial hair. Choose a quality line of shaving products to avoid merely replacing your facial hair with visible irritation and ingrowns caused by cheap blades and irritating ingredients. 2. Find a Mentor According to a 2016 Deloitte survey, millennials who plan to stay with their employer for more than five years are twice as likely to have a mentor than not, and 81% of those employees recorded being satisfied with their mentor. It’s also been found that 80% of workplace learning takes place between mentors and mentees. If your company doesn’t have a mentorship program in place, there are a few tips to finding a mentor for yourself. Make it a goal to build relationships with those higher up than you and who work in different areas across the company. Those who have seniority in different departments can offer a unique perspective on how things work, and can also provide you with insight into different opportunities you may not have considered for yourself before. 3. Create a Strong Relationship With Your Boss Your boss is usually the one person who can make or break your chances of getting a promotion. If you consistently do a great job, you might be lucky enough to have a supervisor who regularly tries to get you recognized. Regardless, it’s critical to establish a well-oiled working relationship with them. You may not ever get to a place where you feel completely comfortable having important one-on-one conversations with your boss, but make sure you’re able to have an open dialogue about your desire for growth and opportunity, and that they’re aware of the good work you do. Ask your boss questions including: What am I doing well? What should I improve on to overcome roadblocks in my path to career growth? What do you envision my growth path looking like? What has your own path to success been like? 4. Build a Strong Network We often think about networking as something we do externally, outside of our place of work. However, internal networking within your own company is essential for creating more opportunities for yourself. The more people who know your strengths, skills, and capabilities firsthand, the more your value to the organization will become known. Internal networking is easier said than done, especially for introverts. Start by offering to help those on your team on things you think your skills would be useful for, and stalk and ask to attend meetings your boss is involved in if appropriate. There are many small ways to help you start getting seen, and it doesn’t need to include highly social events like the happy hour if that’s not your thing. 5. Track Your Past Performance Do yourself a favor and start keeping a log of all your personal achievements, big and small. No matter what it is, if it’s something you worked on and it led to some kind of success, it’s worth noting and keeping track of, or developing a portfolio of work for. A large part of getting promoted is proving you deserve it, and you’ll make doing that so much easier on yourself if you keep track of your performance along the way. 6. Seek Out Learning Opportunities Promotion is contingent on your ability (and desire) to grow. Hunt for more knowledge and new skills, which will equate to more opportunities to contribute to the success of the company. Start by staying up to date on all news and trending topics within your industry, and in industries that are tangentially related. You might also seek out learning and skill development opportunities on an online course platform, which are becoming increasingly popular. You could also see if your company would be willing to reimburse the cost, depending on the content and how you plan to use it for the good of the organization. 7. Take On More Responsibilities Similar to asking to be involved in various important meetings, you should also plan out when it makes sense for you to open yourself up to more responsibilities. When you feel you’re in a groove or maybe feeling unchallenged, first take the initiative and complete a task that usually falls on someone else’s plate (like your boss) without them asking. If you feel like that may come off too forward, simply ask if there’s anything you can take care of and let them know that you’re eager to get more involved. Asking to take on more responsibility shows your commitment to your team and to the company’s success. 8. Be a Team Player While seeking a promotion feels like a self-centric endeavor, it’s also very much about how well you work with a team. Being able to strike a balance between working autonomously and with your department when necessary will go a long way. In the end, your team’s success is your success and vice versa, and being a team player will earn you the respect of your peers and the leaders of the company. 9. Create Your Own Opportunity In many cases, moving up may come down to creating a place to move to. If you notice a consistent problem somewhere in the company, work towards identifying a solution for it. Show a level of motivation and resourcefulness by developing a plan of attack on how to fix the problem, and make it clear the role you feel you can play in the execution of that plan. If you’ve been working hard, getting noticed for your hard work, and have vied for a promotion to no avail for some time, it may mean you need to consider opportunities elsewhere, depending on your specific situation and career goals. Just remember that, when deserving, it’s not selfish to want or go after a promotion. Author Bio: The Harry’s team believes it’s their duty to try to do give back to the community. They are dedicated to supporting organizations who help people get ready for their next big career step. What is it Like to Attend Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania

What is it Like to Attend Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania The tutors behind Varsity Tutors are not just here to teachtheyre sharing their college experiences as well. Brittnee is a Philadelphia tutor specializing in Spanish tutoring. She is currently a senior at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania majoring in Spanish. See what she had to share about Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania: Describe the campus setting and transportation options. Brittnee: Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania is located in a very rural area in the tiny town of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. The campus is extremely safe, as we are located nearly in the middle of nowhere. Never once have I felt unsafe walking on campus no matter the time of day. For transportation, there are buses that bring students to campus from certain apartment complexes. As there are both apartment complexes and single houses that are rented, everything is in close proximity, and campus is walkable from all of these places in fifteen minutes or less. Some students like to bring a bike for faster transportation, but the majority of students walk. How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania? Brittnee: Professors are usually readily availableif not during their office hours, they are certainly available by appointment. This is true for academic advisers, as well. I spend a great deal of time with my academic adviser, and I feel completely comfortable walking into his office hours or asking him to meet me at a different time (or place other than his office) if my schedule does not fit his on that given day. How would you describe the dorm liferooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Brittnee: When I lived in the dorms in 2012 and 2013 as a freshman and sophomore, the dorms were a great way to meet people since we were all in the same position of coming to college with no friends. There were activities that were planned for us in the common room of our building that also gave us a chance to meet people who lived on other floors. My dorm in particular was known as the sociable one because we were the ones who always kept our doors open as a way for people to pass by to say hello and introduce themselves. When we left the dorms with our new friends, there were four places we could dine on campus, two of which were dining halls, one of which was a caf, and the other was the student union building. In every one of these places, we were provided with plenty of different options. Which majors/programs are best represented and supported at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania? Brittnee: A well known major at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania is education because of the fieldwork that has to be done to get the degree. My education friends have told me that they really enjoy the fieldwork and observations in classrooms because it gives them a real life experience right away. When I came to Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, I decided to study Spanish, not only because of the love for the language that I have, but also because it is becoming difficult to get far in the professional business world if you do not have any knowledge of Spanish or a second language in general. In conjunction with my Spanish major, I also have minors in business and international studies, both of which are compatible with my Spanish. Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania was very supportive of my areas of study, as I did not declare these two minors until my junior year of college, which did not leave me much time to complete them. My adviser and some professors worke d with me to make sure this was possible and that I would still be able to graduate on time. They were successful because I am on track to graduate in May, as scheduled. How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Brittnee: I am not a part of Greek life, however, I am an athlete. I play tennis, and by starting as a freshman, this gave me a great opportunity to have a solid friend group right at the start of my college career. Not only did I have these girls, but I was also able to meet mutual friends through older girls on the team. How helpful is the Career Center and other student support services? Brittnee: The Career Center is helpful as far as I know. From my experience, they helped me shape my resume, and for this, I got several job offers. A few times throughout the year, there is a career fair where companies come to campus and are open to talking with students about future plans. How are the various study areas such as libraries, the student union, and dorm lounges at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania? Brittnee: All three of these places are just perfect. I spend all of my time in the library and the student union, and I have never had a problem with too many people. We are a small enough school population-wise that not everybody is in the same spot at the same time. There are certainly rooms in the library and the student union for our use that are readily available to us. Describe the surrounding town. Brittnee: Shippensburg is a very small town. The only fun things to do are to go out to eat at one of the four restaurants we have, or to travel to the local Walmart and walk around. Students usually gather at someones house off-campus if they want to get together in a big group. Or if they want to spend money, students will meet up and go out to eat. How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Brittnee: We have about 8,000 undergraduate students at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. With that said, I am generally pleased with the class sizes. For my general education classes, they usually consisted of about 50 people. When it got down to my Spanish classes, my largest class was 15 people. This is perfect for me because the professor can really focus on each and every student in the class. Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one you regret the most. Brittnee: My most memorable academic experiences were usually with my foreign professors. A few years ago I had this professor from Spain, and she was a bundle of joy and always so full of energy. During our Spanish class, she would play music videos that related to our lectures for the day. She would get up in front of the class and jump around the room and pretend she was singing a concert by holding a makeshift microphone. I know this is not anything significant, but it was a great memory for me of how she could turn something simple into something fun and enjoyable while getting the point across and making people laugh.
